Chris Bavaria from Mindset and Praise

Chris Bavaria plays bass guitar for both Mindset and Praise and is a REALLY cool guy! I got to meet him when Betrayed and Praise played in San Francisco a few months ago and thought it would be really cool to interview a guy who plays in two different bands. He is also a really cool photographer. You should look at his photos!!!

PMAKid: What are your three favorite books and why?

Chris: The Dharma Bums by Jack Kerouac - I was living in the Bay Area at the time and instantly connected with Kerouac's writing and the way it got me excited to be alive and be adventurous.

Salad Days by Charles Romalotti - This is a great novel about growing up being a punk. It is almost scary how some of the experiences the main character has were so similar to my own. Everyone should read this!

A People's History of the United States by Howard Zinn - I love reading about history and this is the real deal. Find out about all the horrible stuff we've done! I guess it's kind of depressing in retrospect. They aren't teaching this stuff in your high school history class.

Interview with C.J. Wilson - Straight Edge/PMA Pitcher for the Texas Rangers and American League All-Star

(Update 10/10/2011: I am really excited to say that Mr. Wilson has committed to donating to the next Hardcore for Education fundraiser!  Good luck in the playoffs, Mr. Wilson!)

I have wanted to get an interview with C.J. Wilson for a few months now. Mr. Wilson is a pitcher for the Texas Rangers (and also an American League All-Star!). You can check out his website at He is also on twitter as @str8edgeracer. I hope you enjoy the interview!

PMAKid: What are your three favorite songs and why are they your favorites?

C.J. Wilson: My favorite songs are all over the place- so many years of listening to music it's hard to boil down into that kind of detail, but I'll always like Voodoo Chile (slight return) by Jimi Hendrix, Don't Lose Sight by Throwdown, and Da Funk by Daft Punk.

PMAKid: What are your three favorite books and why are they your favorites?

C.J. Wilson: One of the first books I really got into was Dracula by Bram Stoker when I was about 10 years old...super creepy and just great imagery overall. I've loved reading my whole life. I also read one called Mind Gym, its a sport psychology book. Lastly, I'd have to say The Alchemist. Just a really emotionally motivating book.

For vinyl collectors...

PMAKid's dad here again...

Help support a great label, REACT! Records. Once again, Aram is auctioning a lot of great/rare pieces o' vinyl to help fund one of the best labels around. Check out the eBay auction here.

Interview with Chris Wrenn of Bridge9 Records

Chris Wrenn runs the record label Bridge Nine Records. A couple of my favorite bands (DYS and H2O) is on Bridge Nine, so I thought it would be really cool to talk to Mr. Wrenn. Unlike some other folks that I have interviewed (like Toby Morse from H2O), Mr. Wrenn was not always Straight Edge, but made the decision to be drug and alcohol free after going to college. I hope you like the interview!!!!

PMAKid: What are your three favorite songs (by any bands)? Why are they your favorite and what impact did they have on you?

Chris: I can't narrow down three songs but I can tell you 3 of my favorite bands from when I was just getting into hardcore... Minor Threat, Dead Kennedy's, and The Misfits. I think those were 3 of the more influential bands for me early on (and probably a lot of people in HC/punk).
